Nutrition Counseling & How to Eat Healthy

The Sun Health Center for Health & Wellbeing is proud to offer the guidance of a registered dietitian (RD) who can provide nutritional counseling, also known as Medical Nutrition Therapy, to help improve your health.

Health professionals agree that individuals dealing with chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and hypertension will often benefit from the expertise and guidance of a registered dietitian. Nutritional counseling includes:

  • A review of what you eat and your eating habits
  • Nutritional education to help you succeed at home
  • A personalized nutrition treatment plan including goals to improve your nutrition

The first visit with the RD will take approximately one hour. After the first session, the RD will schedule follow-up appointments to check on your progress and see if changes are needed in your nutrition goals and treatment plan.

Medical Nutrition Therapy is covered by a variety of insurance plans including Medicare for certain conditions including diabetes and kidney disease. With a physician order, clients may be eligible for up to three (3) hours of medical nutrition therapy services in the first year of care and two (2) hours each additional year. Check with your insurance plan for specific medical nutrition therapy coverage details. If your insurance does not cover nutritional counseling for your health issue, the Center for Health & Wellbeing offers low out-of-pocket fees for these services.
